New Years Resolutions - May Update.

okay, this month has gone by so quickly, yet the beginning of the month seems so long ago all at the same time - it's crazy to think that i was still at uni at the start of May! the first week or so of May was filled with deadlines and finishing second year of uni, something i can't believe has come around so quickly, but i'm so eager to be a final year student and graduate and head out into the big, wide (scary), adult world! James also came up to visit me the first bank holiday weekend of May, and it was so nice to take a break and just enjoy a weekend for a change. Since getting back from uni, i've just been working, catching up with friends, and starting work for my major project for next year. anyone who has read my blog for a while will  know that i'm a little one direction obsessed, so it will come as no surprise that i bought tickets to see them again on their 2014 stadium tour. i'm going with the lovely Ellie from www.elliesramblings.com, and you would not believe how excitable two grown women are about a boybands concert which is over a year away...
I start my internship with a beauty PR company next week, which I am so, so excited for and can't wait to be in London every day, so i'll let you know how that goes in next months update!

1. Try some Soap & Glory products
i've still tried nothing else... i think that was a bit of a New Years hype and i'm just not feeling it anymore, so this might get struck off the list...

2. Try some Lush products
and so might this... although i am pretty eager to try their shampoo/conditioner bars, especially to take on holiday!

3. Do 20 sit ups every morning and every night
i'm an awful, awful person. i have been on the cross-trainer a few times, but it's flared up an old knee injury so i'm not sure how that's going to work out. i have recently come across Lucy Mecklenburgh from TOWIE's exercise twitter (@ResultsWithLucy) which sounds amazing with a quick workout posted each day, so i'm going to sort myself out some sort of exercise regime to start toning up!

4. ALWAYS walk to work. unless it's raining.
i did while i was in leicester... but since i've been home, i haven't done this, even though i live closer! nightmare.

5. Eat more healthily
i'm trying, i'm really trying. i count my calories a bit more now, and try very hard not to go over 1,000 calories a day.

6. Try and save £1000 in my savings for car/internship
i did this last month, so of course it wasn't going to last for long!

7. Don't attempt a spending ban
well i was never going to, was i?!

8. Book a holiday
i have excelled in this one and booked TWO holidays. i said in my last post that i was going to New York, but due to some miscalculations (Mother!!!!) it can't happen, so we've traded in New York for Barcelona for mine and Mum's 21st/50th. Turns out there's a Sephora in Barcelona too, which i'm far too excited for! James and i also booked our holiday, and we're going to Gran Canaria to a gorgeous 5* spa resort and absolutely can't wait!

9. Purchase a brush cleaner for  make-up brushes
i haven't purchased one, but i did make my own with olive oil and baby shampoo, and it worked a treat! i just googled home-made brush cleaners and there's tons of recipes!

10. Jar project
i think i've put a couple of bits in... but not loads!

11. Watch as many films as possible off my list of 'Films I Should Have Seen But Haven't'
I got through three this month, plus three films not on the list - Apollo 13, Moon (even if i did fall asleep) & Click.

The Most Hyped Beauty Bloggersphere Product Ever?

ever since i started my blog, Bioderma is the one product which has always been talked about in the community as a 'cult' product - everyone and their Mother seemed to rant and rave about it, but because it wasn't available in the UK, i rarely gave it a second thought.
that was, until, Bioderma announced that it would be available in the UK, so of course i ended up having a nosy on the escentual.com website and somehow it ended up in my shopping basket.
i went for the Sensibio H2O Micelle solution (purely because this is what i'd seen the most reviews on) and thought i'd pick up the smallest 100ml bottle just to try it out before i dive in and snap up a big bottle.
and wow, am i tempted to go back and order the big one! this has made a considerable difference to my skin. before, i would constantly have at least one spiteful, stubborn, nasty spot on my face that i just couldn't budge, and i'd suffer from break-outs more often than not, and i was getting sick of it. since i've introduced Bioderma into my skincare routine, this has completely stopped. i still get the odd little spot, but break-outs are long gone (touch wood!), and i think it's down to how well this budges make-up. i used to just use a wipe, but this really gets rid of the last specks of make-up on your face whilst cleansing the skin at the same time - my skin is 100% make-up free after a quick swipe over my face. this is what i was hoping for from Bioderma, but the fact it's improved my skin in general is just a bonus.
it's completely fragrance free and, essentially, just feels like water on the skin, but it's definitely a powerful little thing and does wonders to the skin!
i know a lot of other brands have now jumped on the Micellar water bandwagon (B, L'Oreal etc), so i think i'll try a couple of others out before i re-order bioderma, just because it's so much quicker to pick it up in a drugstore rather than wait for an online order, but i highly reccomend this to anyone thinking of trying it, and i know that after this a Micellar solution will now forever be a part of my daily skincare routine.

i picked mine up from escentual.com for £4.50/100ml

Collective Fashion & Beauty Haul!

helloo.
so somehow i've ended up with enough bits and pieces to warrant another collective haul - i'm blaming some super good offers, and the fact that the only thing to cheer me up from a 3-day bad mood was, of course, retail therapy. these bits have been collected over three or four shopping trips, and not all in one go, not that that makes it any better.
also, sorry that i haven't edited the pictures in this post - my laptop has gone in for repairs, so i'm borrowing the family one and it doesn't have the right programmes on it.

MAKE-UP
what's a girl to do when Superdrug have 3 for 2?! spend money she didn't need to seems to be the answer. i did actually have 6 things in my hand, but was good and cut down to things i actually wanted. first i picked up the new Maybelline Mega Plush Volum' Express Mascara. i didn't need a new mascara at all, but the gel-mousse formula really intrigued me, aswell as the flex brush. unfortunately it's not waterproof which is something i always go for in a mascara, but i'll give it a go and hopefully they'll bring out a waterproof version  if i like it. second i snapped up this Revlon Lip Butter in the shade Juicy Papaya. i'd originally picked up one of the Maybelline versions of this, but swapped to Revlon as the shade was more subtle and better for everyday wear. peaches and corals are the only lip colour which i think suits me, so this shade was perfect. i also then picked up L'Oreals Glam Shine Stain Splash in 200 Princess. i swatched this over the Revlon lip butter and it really bought out the colour, so that was my 3 for 2 haul. all of these were £7.99 each if anyone is interested, and i will eventually get round to reviewing them!

SKINCARE
i've been going a bit skincare crazy lately, and i'm not sure why. three of these were just replacements - the Dove deodorant (£5.29, Superdrug), Dove Summer Glow (£2.49, Savers) and the Simple wipes (£2, Superdrug) - so i picked them up whilst i was in a spending mood yesterday. the other bits i've picked up recently are the L'Oreal Gentle Eye Make-Up remover, which i wanted to try after seeing someone review it on the Fashion, Beauty & Lifestyle Bloggers Facebook Page. i hate, hate, hate scrubbing at my eyes to get make-up off, especially as i wear waterproof mascara, so i'm hoping this will work wonders. it was on a buy one get one free offer in Tescos this week which is why i got two for just £3.49. i also wanted to try their new Micellar water, but i do still have a little Bioderma left which brings me onto the next product... i went to Westfield recently and picked up this B Pure Micellar Water (£4.99) to replace my Bioderma when it runs out, so i already had this before i saw L'Oreal's version. B products were also on a buy one get one half price offer so i also picked up the Exfoliating Cleanser (£5.49) which i'm loving so far - it has really tiny little beads in it and is working a treat. on top of that offer, my friend Pia who i was with, gets 30% off Superdrugs own products so i got these for just over £5 - bargain!

HAIRCARE
i picked the batiste dry shampoo up yesterday as i've run out of my current one, and it was on offer for just £2.48 in Superdrug. then the other three products i picked up in Tesco's on their 3 for 2 haircare offer. i got the got2b Salt Spray (£4.99) after my friend recommended it to me, and i'm really liking it so far - it doesn't leave my hair crispy like other salt sprays i've tried. i then picked up the Tresemme Heat Defence Spray (£4.69) as i don't have anything that solely concentrates on heat defence and then the John Frieda Luxurious Volume Root Booster Blow Dry Lotion (£6.00). again, i'll get round to reviewing these at some point.

CLOTHING

most of my wardrobe seems to be ASOS these days, so when i saw online that they were doing a denim version of their disco pants (i used to live in my black pair), i knew i had to snap them up. i've been after a high-waisted jean for ages that actually fits properly, and these are the perfect fit - the fact that they're more of a legging makes them super snug! i then ended up back on the website a few days later and saw that they had them in a light wash, so i got those too! they did cost £30 each, but if you want these, i'd suggest you buy them now as ASOS currently have 20% NUS discount. i also picked up this coral top (£12) in an attempt to brighten up my wardrobe for spring and summer. i also love the back of it, although i'm not too sure when i'll actually be able to wear it. finally, i picked up these adorable and new favourite pyjama bottoms from Gilly Hicks - they've recently opened up a store at my local outlet village, so i picked these up for just £7.90 when they had £29 on the label - an absolute steal!

so yes, that's all. too much money spent once again. help me, someone!

have any of you been on a little spree recently? i'd love to see your posts if you have!

Would You Rather? Beauty Edition Tag

i've seen quite a lot of different tag posts floating around on various blogs lately and i really love reading these kinds of posts, so i thought i'd start featuring more of them on my blog. i think they're a great way for you all to get to know me a bit better (whether you wanted to or not, i just love me a good tag!) and i'll be doing all sorts of different tags - some beauty, some fashion and some more lifestyle based.

i'm going to kick it off today with the beauty edition of the 'Would You Rather?' tag which Kayleigh from Couture Girl recently posted - let me know what you all think!

Would you rather lose all of your mascaras, eyeliners, lipsticks, and lipglosses or lose all of your palettes and eyeshadows?
definitely palettes and eyeshadows - i only own two eyeshadow palettes and barely a handful of individual shadows, so i wouldn't miss them much. i only tend to wear eyeshadow when i'm going out for some sort of occasion, but i wear mascara, eyeliner and lip products on a daily basis!

Would you rather chop off all your hair or never be able to cut it again?

i think it would have to be never being able to cut it again, this is a tough one! i was considering getting it all chopped off last week, but i think i'd miss it too much. i live in messy buns so i could just bundle it all up on the top of my head!

Would you rather have a coral cheek or a pink cheek?
definitely coral - pink cheeks just make me look really flushed and it's not a good look on me!

If you had £1000 to spend, Would you rather buy clothes or makeup?

this is such a tough one, i'm addicted to shopping for both! i guess clothes are much more versatile, and i have more than enough make-up to tide me over. can i not just do £500 on each?!

Would you rather apply lipstick as eyeliner, or eyeliner as lipstick?
neither would be a good look, but i think lipstick as eyeliner would make me look like i had some kind of disease, so i'd have to go for eyeliner as lipstick... i hope this never happens.

Would you rather only shop at MAC or Sephora?

we don't have Sephora in the UK, but if i lived near one, i'd rather shop there than at MAC. purely because you have the choice of more than one brand at Sephora whereas MAC is just MAC.

Would you rather only use one eyeshadow color or one lip color for the rest of your life?
only one eyeshadow - i don't really use eyeshadow and if i do i always go for a nudey/brown shade so it wouldn't bother me just having one. i think a change of lip colour can really complete an outfit, so i'd hate to be restricted to just one!

Would you rather wear winter clothes in summer or summer clothes in winter?
winter clothes in summer, purely because British summers rarely get that hot. i'd always rather be hot than cold!

Would you rather dark nails or bright nails all year round?
i think bright? i'm sort of 50/50 on this, but I'd rather be able to brighten up outfits in winter than dull down summer outfits?
Would you rather give up your favorite lip product or your favorite eye product?

my favourite lip product. i personally think that i look completely different without eyeliner & mascara and would hate to not have them - i'd much rather sacrifice a favourite lip product.

Would you rather only be able to wear your hair in a pony tail or a messy bun?
a messy bun. my hair is almost always in a messy bun as it is, so yes. buns all the way.

Would your rather never being able to paint your nails again or never use lipgloss?
never wear lipgloss. i don't even wear lipgloss, so this wouldn't be hard for me, but i'd hate to not be able to paint my nails - the only time they don't have polish on them is when i'm changing the colour.

Would you rather shave your eyebrows and have none at all? or sharpie them in everyday?
sharpie them in everyday, i don't even want to think about what i'd look like with no eye-brows, terrifying!

Would you rather live without makeup or nail polish?
nail polish. like i said, i look like two completely different people with & without make-up and if someone ever told me they were going to take all my make-up away i don't now what i'd do. absolute nightmare!

so this tag has made me realise how much i actually take my make-up collection for granted! i think it's awful that i feel like i couldn't live without it, but the thought of going bare-faced for the rest of my life gives me the shivers!
i'd love to know all of your 'Would You Rathers' so i tag anyone who reads this! if you give it a go, leave me a link to your post in the comments below and i shall go and have a little nosey!

John Frieda Luxurious Volume Dry Shampoo

John Frieda Luxurious Volume Dry Shampoo (*)

i think dry shampoo is my favourite ever hair product - i've gone through countless bottles by a handful of different brands, but i've never found one that i love. until now. if you read my previous post on John Frieda Shampoo and Conditioner, then you'll know that the products left me with greasier hair than normal so i was grateful for the dry shampoo that was also included in the bundle!
my main pet peeves with dry shampoos that i've used in the past are the visible white patches and how 'gassy' and unpleasant they are when you spray them (yes, i know this is an awful description! they just linger in the air and leave you choking a bit!). this has neither of these!
it does feel a little more wet than others i've used before, if this makes any sense - it feels more like a spray when it comes out of the can, but does the job as soon as it settles on the hair. it also doesn't have that awful lingering, gassy effect which I hate, it goes straight to the hair and nowhere else - i think this could be my perfect dry shampoo!
as for the Volume effect it promises, i can't say i noticed it all that much - when i first use it, it does spruce up my roots, but will fall again fairly quickly, but this is just my hair rather than the product - literally no volumising products have a long-lasting effect on my hair!
i think if i were to buy into the whole Luxurious Volume collection then it would eventually have some effect on my hair, i just can't afford it at the moment, but i definitely want to try out the Fine to Full Blowout Spray and Blow Dry Lotion Root Booster to see if i can finally get some volume to my hair!

do any of you have a dry shampoo that you love, or will you even go and try this out?

Viviscal Hair Filler Fibers

so we're going a bit review crazy over on the blog lately!
todays post is on the Viviscal Hair Filler Fibers(*). initially, i was under the impression that these were to add volume to my hair, but this was definitely not the case - it's more to fill in more sparse areas of hair, so i was  a little wary of trying them out. basically, you shake the little tub of fibers onto the desired area and they cling to the existing hair to give a thicker, fuller appearance and i tested out the light brown shade. fortunately, i don't exactly have any of these thinner looking patches, and the pictures on the product do make it look like it's more intended for an older customer where this is more of an issue. i did give it ago round my hairline to see if it would give a fuller appearance to my hair and there was a slight difference, but nothing significant, although i imagine this would change with continued use!
unfortunately though, these are an absolute nightmare to use and make a huge mess - the fibers fly everywhere and will cling to your clothes like nothing else, leaving a brown powdery residue behind - not the best look in the world and it instantly put me off using the fibers again, especially with beige carpets in the house!
i don't have any before or after pictures, purely because it was noticable, but if you would like to see some, and of the mess it leaves behind then feel free to ask.
i can't say that this is a product i think should be aimed at the bloggersphere world - it's just not really the type of product that i imagine the majority of us are interested in or need!

if you are interested in these, then i have a $5 off voucher code for you (they come from America, sorry Brits!)
Available at RiteAid.com; use promo code VIVISCAL to receive $5.00 off!
Size: 15 grams (approximately one month supply)
Price: $24.99
Colors include: Dark Brown/Black, Light Brown, Blonde, Grey and Auburn

Per the updated FTC guidelines, I received the sample products with compliments from BeautyStat.com, but my review is my own objective opinion.

John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Liquid Shine Illuminating Shampoo & Conditioner

hello guys!
today is the day i start getting back into blogging now i'm all done with my second year of uni - it scares me that when I go back i'll be a final year and almost 21! i have quite a few products that i need to review, so that's what will be going up over the next few weeks.

i recently recieved a lovely gift-box of John Frieda products and today i'll be talking about the new Brilliant Brunette Liquid Shine Illuminating Shampoo & Conditioner(*).
the John Frieda website claims that the shampoo 'Cleanses while it drenches your hair with pure shine for a high-gloss finish. Formulated with an exclusive Crystalline Complex,Brilliant Brunette® Liquid Shine Illuminating Shampoo penetrates damaged areas within the hair while it polishes the exterior of each strand to optimise the reflection of light and create a crystal clear shine. Intended for daily use.'  whilst the conditioner ' lightly coats each hair strand to provide non-stop brunette shine.'

now i'm the kind of person who when i find a shampoo and conditioner i like, i really stick to it and my go-to choice is the Tresemme Split End Remedy Duo, but I have used the regular Brilliant Brunette duo before and liked it, so was looking foward to testing this out. If you've used John Frieda Brilliant Brunette in the past, then the smell of these is exactly the same - it's not really something you can describe, but it's a gorgeous clean hair scent!
One thing that caught my attention was that the shampoo was clear - absolutely no colour, but i'm guessing that this is part of what makes the hair shine? It lathers up really well, and the conditioner it super silky and really feels like it's worked its way into your hair.
i don't wash my hair every day, i can get away with it every 2-3 days and after the initial wash it left my hair very soft, softer than my usual shampoo and conditioner. it has given it a slight shine, and i think this would have a much better effect if i did use it everyday - by the time i get round to re-washing the initial shine has worn off. the only downside that i've noticed is that my hair has tended to start becoming greasier a little quicker than before, but there's obviously products I could use to counteract this whilst I carry on using the John Frieda pieces. I have also noticed my split ends more, but this is because i'm used to the effects of the Tresemme duo, but I've started alternating between this and the Tresemme with my washes to get the effects of both.

Most local supermarkets/drugstores will stock this, and you can learn more over on the John Frieda website.

New Years Resolutions - April Update

Helloo.
Sorry this is a bit late this month and that I've been super quiet on the blogging front the last couple of weeks, but I've been doing long days at uni to meet all my deadlines and I have now officially finished second year, scary! This means I now have a couple of spare weeks to get some posts written up before I start interning in June, so May will be a better month for blogging. April seems to have gone by in a bit of a blur for me if i'm honest, and I couldn't tell you much that has happened. The one thing that stood out for me this month was probably visiting Rosie (www.aroselikethis.blogspot.com) in Manchester to see One Direction which you can read about here! My Mum & Dad also came up to visit for the day, which was a nice break from cramming uni work, but apart from that, April has been a bit of a bore...
I can't wait to get home on Wednesday and just be back with my family. to be honest, i feel like i've grown up quite a lot this last month or so and as a result have grown away from some of my friends. to know someones lied to you for the whole year just makes me feel like i've been wasting my time, especially when it's on a subject that she knows i'm a little touchy about. it just makes me appreciate the few real friends i have even more, and how much i have matured compared to them...

1. Try some Soap & Glory products
i've not bought anything this month, but one of the girls at work has an unwanted product that she's going to give me!

2. Try some Lush products
nothing. sorrrry!

3. Do 20 sit ups every morning and every night
so i did this once... but at least if i start this month then I'll have done it for over half the year, right? My Dad's also just bought a cross-trainer, so I'm going to try and do 15 minutes on this each evening too.

4. ALWAYS walk to work. unless it's raining.
this is the only one i seem to be able to keep up...

5. Eat more healthily
i need to go on some sort of crash diet, i've been awful at this!

6. Try and save £1000 in my savings for car/internship
okay, so it was my student loan, but still!

7. Don't attempt a spending ban
see last blogpost....

8. Book a holiday
haven't got round to this yet, BUT... I AM GOING TO NEW YORK AND BOOKING IT IN THE NEXT WEEK. basically my Dad won a family holiday but it's for two adults and two children which rules me out, so me & Mum are using the money saved to go away for a joint 21st/50th holiday and I am honestly so so excited. We're going to go late September which means I will have two holidays in one month as me and James are planning on going away early that month, so I need to start some saving!

9. Purchase a brush cleaner for  make-up brushes
now that i've purchased some Real Techniques brushes, this is turning into a priority...

10. Jar project
i've put a few bits in this month, and the first jar is starting to look a little full now!

11. Watch as many films as possible off my list of 'Films I Should Have Seen But Haven't'
i've watched one this month... what a failure! I finally got round to watching Pitch Perfect after a lot of people seemed to tell me i NEEDED to watch it in the space of a week. in all honesty, i wasn't the biggest fan, but i'll leave you all to decide for yourselves!
